MEDITATION AS AN ALTERNATIVE HEALING PROCESS
Meditation is one alternative healing technique that puts the mind-over-body philosophy at the core of its discipline. Yoga is among the more popular meditation technique that has it roots in India dating back to the time of Gautama Sidharta Buddha. But meditation as a form of relaxation that has more restorative cures than healing has been practiced by the Greeks in earlier times. It does tend to energize the mind more than anything.
In general, Meditation has the following biological benefits: It relieves stress, it helps to get rid of acute and chronic pain, rebuild, rejuvenate, and re-energize cells, it enables to improve one’s focus, state of mind, health, relationships and level of energy. It boosts one’s energy level, increases stamina, it normalizes blood pressure, release stress and stress related illnesses like heart disease, hypertension and insomnia and improves coordination and physical responses.
Meditation also has psychological benefits: it improves mental health, gives greater emotional stability, independence, spontaneity and it also helps releasing negative emotions to get rid of anxiety depression, and dependence on illicit drugs.
Also meditation can provide greater sense of ‘spiritual’ more accurate judgment, improves creative thought process, increase concentration, and improve memory and overall intelligence.
The practice of meditation is focused on one objective – to heal an ailment by restoring and sustaining the wellness of the body. This is also the focus of other forms of alternative healing. Claims of healing may be controversial from any medical viewpoint. But its practitioners can swear by its benefits in relaxing and clarifying the mind. A sound body follows after a sound mind.
