REIKI

Each and every one of us has universal “energy life force”, you, me, plants and animals. Such is the principle behind Reiki. By tapping into this energy life force, the promise is there to induce healing. This life force flows through pathways within our body called chakras, meridians and nadis. It nourishes and sustains our health. When the flow is disrupted or our energy is depleted, Reiki helps restore our energy, washes away the negative feelings and reconstitute the flow of our energy life force.

The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words: Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". Thus, Reiki means "spiritually guided life force energy." It has Japanese roots that may have been influenced by similar philosophies from India and China. It was developed by Mikao Usui during the early 20th century when, after meditating, fasting and praying at Mt. Kurama, he realized that he was given the ability to heal others without depleting his own energy.

Reiki could be practiced for whole body or localized treatment. During a session, as the patient lies down and relaxes, Reiki practitioners lay their hands on various body points as well as gesture in the air to channel "healing energy”. The renewed energy flows through their palms and bring healing over the patient. A no-touch technique may be used where the hands are placed a few centimeters above various points. For localized treatment, the practitioner places his hands on specific points of the body where there are recent injuries. Three or more treatments with an interval of 2-7 days are usually recommended.

Self treatment where the practitioner and recipient are one and the same is also possible. Reiki could also be used in group treatment, treatment of animals and plants, and spiritual practice.

It is plain that Reiki is another form of energy channeling modality that promises restorative cures for the ailing mind and body. It has preventive healing qualities as well as maintains energy balance before any noticeable symptoms appear. While spiritual in nature, it is not religious and does not hinge on the patient’s faith. Reiki energy has its own discipline and promises to provide healing to patients who understand its curative and therapeutic powers.
