Back surgery
Back surgery is one option open to you if you are suffering from severe back pain. Please note however that an easy solution through surgery is not common. Surgery will only provide the answer in a small percentage of cases and may not be available to help with your complaint.
So what are the surgery options available?
Spinal surgeons can perform the follow procedures:-
Nerve decompression
Fuse segments
Correction of spinal deformities
Discectomy
Decompression
Spinal Fusion
Whichever type of surgery is prescribed will depend on what the patients specific order being addressed is and also which type of surgery will have the highest success rate in treating the route of the problem.
There are three main routes which the surgeon can take when performing this type of surgery. The most common form being the posterior (rear), the anterior (front) and then the most difficult being called transforaminal (which is conducted through/across the nerve passageways, called foramen).
Spinal surgery can also include the use of implants using rods, cages and screws. These are used to help fuse the spine together and stabilize it in order for surgery to begin or can be used on their own to bolster what is already there.
