Joint Pain
The limbs themselves have many different types of pain. Some pain disorders affect only one limb i.e. the knee whilst others affect more than one such as the wrist and hips.
The most common types of joint pain are as follows:-
Sacroiliac Joint Pain
This condition affects the sacroiliac joint which connects the pelvic bone to the spinal column.
The pain is usually felt as a sharp dull pain down the one side of the body which worsens when sitting for prolonged periods of time or when walking.
This type of pain can be confused with lower back pain and usually needs a professional to diagnose the exact cause.
Sacroiliac Joint Pain Treatment
Treatment takes many forms from intensive exercises to posture improvement or as a last resort surgery. Anti inflammatory drugs are also used to treat the pain but not the cause.
Osteoarthritis
This is a common disease of the joints which cause pain, inflammation and stiffness. It is thought to be a disorder of the cartilage that covers the surface of the joint.
The condition can appear for no apparent reason or can be hereditary. It can also be brought on by other disorders such as a deformity or injury in which case it is known as secondary osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis Treatment
Treatment usually takes the form of anti inflammatory drugs or heat methods. Weight loss resulting in less pressure being put on the joint itself may ease the pain. If there is a build up of fluid around the joint then this can be removed using a syringe.
It is essential to keep the joints mobile and to be as active as possible and not let the damaged joints get stiff.
Rheumatoid arthritis
This is a painful disorder that can lead to severe deformity of the limbs and can cause severe inflammation. It tends to affect the smaller joints such as the fingers, wrists and knees.
Stiffness in the joint itself is usually the first signs of the condition especially in the morning. It may affect only one or two joints or it can be widespread.
Middle aged women are most commonly affected however it has been known to be found in young children.
Rheumatoid arthritis Treatment
There is no known cure for the eradication of this condition. Drugs and various treatments can help relieve the pain and ensure a better quality of life. Physiotherapy and occupational therapists should be consulted as a matter of course if the condition worsens and you find yourself immobile. Pain relieving drugs can provide temporary relief from the pain associated with this.
