Kidney Pain

Everyone has two kidneys. The kidneys are an important organ and play an essential role in filtering the blood and removing any excess waste products and water from the body. Urine is formed as a waste product in this essential organ.

Kidney Pain causes

The kidneys can easily become swollen or infected and this can cause extreme pain. Also within this area can tumors and cysts form which again can cause excruciating pain.

The pain felt can feel quite extreme however this is not generally life threatening.

Kidney pain and the back

Pain in the kidneys is generally felt in the lower back area just at the base of the spine. There may also be a trace of blood within the urine of there is an infection in the kidneys.

Kidney stones

These are caused by a build up of waste products. The waste products form together to create a small crystal like substance which are commonly referred to as stones. These vary in size however can cause a great deal of pain. These stones pass through the ureter tubes and are eventually expelled from the body on passing urine. This is a long slow process and a person can be in pain for a long time before they pass out the system.

People can be susceptible to them and may need laser surgery to remove the larger ones which are unable to pass through the tube quickly enough.

Treatment for kidney pain

It is essential that plenty of fluid especially water is drunk. Water helps to flush out any toxins and waste found within the kidney area. It also helps to dilute your urine and as such this should decrease the risk of kidney stones and infection.

It is also important to empty your bladder as soon as you feel the need. This ensures that no unhealthy bacteria can breed and also prevents stones from forming.

Relief may also be given in the form of paracetemol. If there is an infection within the kidney area then antibiotics prescribed by your doctor may be needed to clear this up.
